What is Legal metrology

Legal Metrology means that part of metrology which treats units of weighments and measurement, methods of weighments and measurement and weighing and measuring instruments, in relation to the mandatory technical and legal requirements, which have the object of ensuring public guarantee from the point of view of security and accuracy of the weighments and measurement.

            The department of Legal Metrology is regulatory Department. It is responsible for maintaining uniformity and accuracy in all weights & measures, weighing and measuring Instruments used by the traders, trade for transaction and protection, the main functions of the department is to implement the provisions of Legal Metrology Act. 2009 and Rules made there under.
