Nagaon district is located at the center of the state, situated on Southern bank of the Brahmaputra River between 25”45’ to 26”45’ North latitudes and 91”50’ and 93”20’ East longitude. Agro-climatically it is in the Central Brahmaputra Valley Zone. The mighty Brahmaputra River fallowing in its north, hills of Karbi-Anglong, Hojai in south, Golaghat district in east and Morigaon in west. Total geographical area of Nagaon district is 2608.79 sq km having 3 agricultural sub division, 13 development blocks, 172 Gaon panchayats and 1004 revenue villages. The major rivulets of the district are draining in the Brahmaputra at Kalong and Kapili which are perennial water resources. Since, the district is located at the center of state hence it is facilitating as a traffic corridor to the upper and northern districts of the state that are further extending to other N.E. states viz. Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. The district is well connected by road, rail and river. The national highways NH-36 and NH-37 are passing through the district. Dispur, the capital of Assam is at a distance of 123 km by roads from Nagaon town.
