Nagaon is a centrally located district in Assam, situated on the Southern bank of the Brahmaputra River between 25”45’ to 26”45’ North latitudes and 91”50’ and 93”20’ East longitude. It is bounded by Sonitpur and the Brahmaputra to the North, West Karbi Anglong, Hojai and Dima Hasao to the South, East Karbi Anglong and Golaghat to the East and Morigaon to the West.

How to reach:

By Road: There is very good availability of buses plying from Guwahati, Jorhat and Tezpur to Nagaon, There is flexibility of timings. Plenty of government and private buses travel between Guwahati and Nagaon. The district lies about 120 km east of Guwahati with an average travel time of 2 hours. Nagaon is round 190 km from Jorhat and 75 km from Tezpur. Taxies are available for hire from all major destinations to Nagaon.

By Train : There are several trains plying between Guwahati and Nagaon. It takes around 2 to 3 hours to reach Nagaon from Guwahati by train. Chaparmukh is the major railway junction located at a distance of 30 Km from Nagaon, near Raha. The district headquarter has two railway has two railway station at Nagaon and Haibargaon.

By Air : The nearest airport is Salonibari Airport, Tezpur in Sonitpur Distract located at a distance of 80 Km. The Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati ( 130 Km ) has a good flight connectivity with all major destinations throughout the country.

Natural Tourism

A significant part of the Kaziranga National park and Tiger Reserve falls in Nagaon Kaziranga is UNESCO world heritage site and home to two-third of the world’s great one-horned rhinoceros population. The historical Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary of Nagaon is notified bugger of the kaziranga, Tiger Reserve. The sanctuary is blessed with a myrad of picturesque landscapes and many wildlife species such as Asiatic Wild Buffaloes, Royal Bengal Tigers, Indian Elephats, Wild Boars, Civets and more than 300 species of birds including the critically endangered Bengal Florican. Reserve forests such and Doboka, Suang, North Diju, Kamakhya, Bagser and Kukurakata offer immense potential for nature lovers to explore and trek, Wetlands, like Pokhi Tirtha ( Samaguri) Deobali and Hahila are home for many rare, endemic and migratory birdlife. Places such as Baduli Khurung, a cave home for thousands of bats, the Blue Water Lake, and natural waterfalls such as Deojuri, Chapanala and Hadhadi are major torist attractions for natural lovers.
